This was an era when there was much theatre-building in Great Britain and Ireland. Gaiety was a popular name, the most famous the trend-setting Gaiety Theatre in London's West End. Of all the theatres from roughly that time bearing the name Gaiety only three remained to welcome the 21st. century -- the Gaiety, Dublin (built in 1871 with C. J. Phipps its architect), the Gaiety, Douglas, Isle of Man (designed by architect Frank Matcham in 1900 and built within the shell of the Pavilion of 1893), and the Gaiety, Ayr.

Theatre Royal Dumfries was built in 1792 in Scotland. The Theatre is run on a voluntary basis by the members of the Guild of Players.
Kirkcaldy Museum & Art Gallery, set in the attractive garden grounds of the town's War Memorial Gardens, houses a collection of fine and decorative arts of local and national importance. The museum owns what is probably the largest public collection of the works of William McTaggart and Scottish Colourist S.J. Peploe existing outside the National Galleries of Scotland. The collection also includes a significant number of works by the Glasgow Boys.The ground floor features an award winning permanent local history display. A lively changing exhibition programme of art, craft, history and photography runs throughout the year.
